It's Dinosaur Discovery Time! Come join me at the Exploration Commons at the Westminster Branch of the Carroll County Library! We will learn about dinosaurs, read books, play games, and do projects all about dinosaurs!
As a teacher of over 30 years, ‘readiness’ for school does not only mean reading and math knowledge. Young children should be developing longer attention spans by listening to stories and understanding the story elements. Children also need fine motor skills such as cutting, gluing, and coloring. There is a purpose to having the materials in my kits not “precut”. Cutting and coloring are essential skills to completing tasks as they grow and engage in various learning environments. If your child struggles with the cutting, share the task. Have them do some and you do some until they are capable of completing the task independently. Lev Vygotsky and John Dewey believed that adults are important facilitators (not doers) in the development of young children.
